Tip of the month (4)

Tip of the month (4)

At the beginning of each month, I publish a tip to make easier & quicker your use of Excel.

This is the 4th article of the “tip of the month” serie. The first three were about :

  1. Excel shortcuts
  2. Custom toolbar
  3. A quick Excel data cleansing

Today, we are going to talk about a trick with the “paste special” command. As you’ve learnt by heart your Excel shortcuts, you know you can access “paste special” menu by typing : Alt e s

In the short video below, I am using the “paste special” menu to quickly divide a range of numbers by 1,000 (firstly copied) :

Divide easy

Good to know

  •  I could have used this technique to perform an addition or a multiplication.”Paste special” command  has other very interesting possibilities (such as copying in value, formats or transposing an array) that we will use later on.

  • As you can see in the picture below, “paste special” menu underlines the letter that you can use as a shortcut to perform your task:

capture paste spe

In our example, “i” is underlined for “divide”. So the full shortcut would be :

Ctrl C  and then Alt e s i

And you ? Do you often use “paste special” command ?
